Coles has heavily reduced its lobster prices in the lead up to Christmas where 40 per cent of its annual sales of the crustacean will be made. 

From Wednesday December 22 West Australian Cooked Rock Lobsters will be available at Coles delis nationwide at just $22 each, down from $27 in November. 

Coles is also offering WA Raw Rock Lobster tails and large WA Cooked Rock Lobsters for the first time ever, with prices 45 per cent cheaper than in any other outlet.

Customers are expected to purchase 10 times as many prawns as they would in an average week, with the biggest seafood sales made over the next three days. 

An abundance of wild-caught and cooked prawns in the domestic market is providing the best quality and value, with fresh Australian cooked black tiger prawns at $27 a kilo.

‘With Christmas just a few days away, we are gearing up for the biggest week of the year for seafood sales with customers buying over 70 per cent more seafood in December compared to an average month,’ he said.

‘Alongside our customers’ love for lobsters, our data has also revealed that prawns are our customers’ third-favourite Christmas food from Coles, and we’re delighted to offer a large variety of raw and cooked prawns for a fantastic price this Christmas.’ 

Woolworths is similarly selling its WA Rock Lobsters for $22 from today, after also reducing them from $27.

‘Seafood is an integral part of an Aussie Christmas and we predict our customers will eat more than 100 tonnes of WA Rock Lobster across the three weeks of Christmas, compared to 70 tonnes last year,’ a Woolworths spokesperson said.
