Meet Australia’s youngest drag queen – 13-year-old ‘Candy Featherbottom’

  • Queensland’s youngest drag queen Candy Featherbottom is 13 years old
  • Logan Kelly was just 10 years old when he began performing as Candy
  • Logan, who loves performing, said his biggest dream is to be a triple-threat actor

Queensland‘s youngest drag queen Candy Featherbottom is a 13-year-old boy who has a passion for performing – and he is challenging perceptions along the way.

Logan Kelly was just 10 years old when he began performing as Candy at North Ipswich Bowls Club, south-west of Brisbane

‘It was just a spark that flew in me … it’s just another way of acting and performing for me,’ he told the ABC

The singer, dancer and aspiring actor became intrigued by drag after watching a family-friendly performance at the local bowls club by group Taboo.

The queens perform to the packed crowd once a month.

‘Candy is a very … unique character, she is really strong … she definitely feels energetic, excited,’ Logan said.

Logan said his biggest dream is to be a triple-threat actor and he doesn’t want to be ‘pigeon-holed’ as a drag queen just because ‘that’s what Candy is’.

Karl Eastaughffe launched Taboo a decade ago, thinking it would be short-term gig but the club has gone from strength to strength.

‘When Taboo started, I was only giving it two to three years max … but 10 years later, we’re going absolutely strong,’ Mr Eastaughffe said.

Taboo is one of the few family-friendly drag clubs in Australia and the queens have helped mentor Logan as he navigates the world of drag.

The personal lives of some of the queens was the subject of a documentary earlier this year – and there are now plans to take Logan’s story even further with full-length feature film.
