Mel Giedroyc skypes The One Show from home and crawls into a hole in the wall

Mel Giedroyc certainly gave the phrase ‘working from home’ new meaning on Wednesday evening.

The comedienne, 51, appeared on The One Show to promote her new TV show, via Skype, thanks to the UK currently being in lockdown amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Appearing alongside her comedy partner Sue Perkins, the ladies were each video-calling from their respective homes.

While Sue chatted to The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Patrick Kielty from her kitchen, giving viewers a glimpse at her home office at one point, Mel’s set-up was a little more unorthodox.

She was first seen sprawling around on the floor of her walk-in wardrobe, which she branded her ‘nook’.

Seen on the carpet, clothes hanging up behind her, Mel insisted that she’d been in there all day, hiding from the rest of her family – all of whom will also be in lockdown.

Mid-way through the segment, Mel asked if she could show viewers her other nook.

Before long, she was seen crawling through a hole in the wall, suddenly surrounded by darkness and insulation material.

‘I’ve got another nook,’ Mel declared, to which Sue joked: ‘No! Don’t show that nook.’

She she crawled into the wall, Alex remarked: ‘Mel, six million people are in you’re nook right now. That’s a bit weird, isn’t it?’

‘I don’t want six million people in my nook, it’s my private nook,’ Mel replied.

‘Yes you do, at your age it’s a gift,’ Sue quipped.

Mel also revealed the space in the wall was where she hides presents ahead of Christmas – even stumbling upon a wrapped gift she had clearly forgotten to give to someone over the festive season last year.

The pair – who used to co-host The Great British Bake Off together – were promoting their new comedy Hitmen.

The original comedy from Sky One and Now TV sees Mel and Sue play contract killers.

They were scheduled to appear live in The One Show studio, but were not able to given the coronavirus crisis.

Hosts Alex and Patrick were unable to sit next to each other for the show, as they sat across from one another on opposite sofas, while in-studio guest Fleur East was made to sit across the studio from them.

Fleur revealed her own coronavirus scare, as she revealed she had been in contact with Prince Charles recently, who has now tested positive for the global virus.

The singer, 32, recalled how she met the Prince Of Wales at the Prince’s Trust Awards earlier this month – at which he kept forgetting that hand-shaking was not allowed.

She reassured Alex and Patrick: ‘It was 14 days ago, so I’m safe. 14 days is the clear window.

‘He just kept forgetting to not shake people’s hands. He kept reaching out.’

She added: ‘I didn’t know how to greet a royal full stop; let alone in these times!’

Fleur also lamented not being able to meet and greet her own fans, following the release of her latest album last week, due to the UK lockdown, which was enforced on Monday.

‘I am sad that I couldn’t meet fans and hug them. But also it’s a good time to have music out and help get people through this time.’
