He tweeted: ‘I am donating 200,000 meals to @HarvestersORG in Kansas City. Lindsay and I love our hometown and want to help do what we can.

‘I’m only posting this to maybe motivate you to do what you can, when you can, if you can, to help vulnerable families in our community during this time.

‘Normally they rely heavily on donated food, but they need the community’s support to make sure they have the resources to help families and children in need.

‘Link to donate if you have the means. https://harvesters.org/coronavirus ,’ concluded the Kansas-born star.

Harvesters is a regional food bank serving northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.

On Wednesday, Eric took to Instagram to encourage his 1.8 million followers to stay at home with a poem.

Alongside a ‘how to be coronavirus graphic’, he wrote: Don’t be a bonehead. Be at home instead. Don’t be a punk. Hunk(er). Don’t be mean. Quarantine.

‘I’m just spitballing here. Oops bad choice of words there. Brainstorming, I mean. Just be smart and be cool and the new cool is staying home and protecting our grandparents and others, if you don’t have to be out or at work.’

Modern family started modestly in 2009, and has gone on to practically reinvent the family sitcom from the ground up, winning over 20 Primetime Emmys and a Golden Globe along the way.

The show’s last day of filming was in February, with cast members including Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sarah Hyland taking to Instagram to share some amazing images marking the final time the Dunphys, Tucker-Pritchetts, and Pritchett-Delgados all got together in front of the camera.

Images of empty sets, final fittings and throwback moments to the series’ pilot script all underscored the bittersweet feeling that the cast and crew seemed to share as they brought the Modern Family era in their careers to a close.

Modern Family’s final season will return for its conclusion in April.
