Natasha posted to the group after stumbling upon the cleaning method after ‘trying everything’ to clean her husband’s beloved hats without damaging them.

And said soaking them made them ‘fade’.

‘I just washed them on auto cycle with the normal dishwashing tablet and Rinse Aid,’ she said, labelling the method ‘magic’.

The mum accompanied the post with a photo of her dishwasher loaded with the perfectly clean hats, leaving other mum’s excited.

‘This is great, I will give it a try with my son’s hats,’ one mum said.

‘Well who would have thought. This is amazing,’ one woman said.

Another mum said popping vinegar in where the rinse aid should go was better for the hats.

‘I used to do this all the time,’ she added to the tip.

And a third confirmed the method was solid.

‘I have been washing my husband’s hats this way for years.’

Some women were worried the hack would bleach the hats or leave them damaged in some other way.

But the original poster said the other cleaning methods she used to use including soaking the hats took the colour out more.

Others shared their tips on cleaning hats for people without access to a dishwasher.

‘I clean hats regularly for my hubby and three son. A really easy way to do it is to spray the hat with Sard and using a brush gently scrub for a little while. then when it looks stain free rinse under warm water until it isn’t soapy anymore,’ one woman said.

Another woman said the trick to cleaning a cap is to wash it as soon as you get home.
