Neymar hobbles off INJURED midway through first-half for PSG against Istanbul Basaksehir with heavy strapping on Brazilian’s left thigh

  • Neymar sustained an injury midway through the first-half on Wednesday
  • The PSG striker clutched his ankle and received medical treatment off the pitch
  • But despite heavy strapping on his thigh, the Brazilian was unable to continue
  • He was replaced by Pablo Sarabia in the game against Istanbul Basaksehir

PSG star Neymar seemed in some discomfort as he was substituted with an injury in the first-half of PSG’s Champions League clash against Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night.

The Ligue 1 champions, who lost their European opener to Manchester United last week, now wait with baited breath as their £200m striker faces a number of weeks on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old seemed to grimace whilst holding his ankle, and after receiving medical attention and heavy strapping on his left thigh, he valiantly tried to continue before calling it a day in the 27th minute.

The Brazilian received the ball on the left-wing, but immediately kicked it out and headed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Pablo Sarabia.

The game was goalless when Neymar came off and PSG could not find a breakthrough in the opening period of the Group H match.

Neymar missed the opening game of the Ligue 1 season at the beginning of September after contracting coronavirus and now faces another setback.

Meanwhile Kylian Mbappe – who started on Wednesday – has been encouraged to win the Champions League with PSG before leaving to test himself elsewhere, by club ambassador Youri Djorkaeff.

‘I think that Mbappe will always have the right opportunity,’ Djorkaeff told Parisfans. ‘Now he’s on a project. He is entering his fourth year in Paris, he’s a young player. I don’t see him staying at PSG for 10 years.

‘His future is to win titles on all continents, something few French people have done.

‘Last year he had a great opportunity to win the Champions League. Unfortunately, he didn’t. This year he will still have the opportunity. The ideal [scenario] is that he wins it and then after he signs in a big club. Everyone will be happy.’

Mbappe’s current contract runs until the summer of 2022, and it will be intriguing to see where he ends up if he does eventually decide to leave. He has frequently been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with Liverpool seen as another possible destination.
