Channel Nine offers a SAVAGE response to Seven after the rival network secured rights to The Voice Australia

Channel Nine has offered a savage response after rival network Seven secured rights to The Voice Australia this weekend.

A Nine spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday that the network is glad to be rid of the singing program, which had underperformed in the ratings.

‘Unfortunately due to the age of the show and declining demographic profile, The Voice had become by far the poorest financial performer on our slate. We wish 7 well in their quest to revive yet another Nine show,’ the representative said.

‘We are very excited about the schedule we have now set for reinvigorating our slate and we will have announcements at our upfronts on September 16.’

We remain focused on our audience and the financial performance of Nine,’ the spokesperson added.

On Saturday, it was confirmed Nine ‘failed to renew the contract’ for the 2021 season of The Voice and Seven jumped on the deal ‘very quickly’.

Sonia Kruger, 55, who previously hosted the singing competition and is now over at Seven, will host the series in 2021.

In a statement, Seven’s CEO and managing director James Warburton, described the acquisition as ‘a coup’.

It’s believed the contracts for coaches Delta Goodrem, Kelly Rowland and Boy George, are yet to be signed but no mention was made regarding the future of Guy Sebastian.

This isn’t the first Nine show Seven have revived this year as last month it premiered its rebooted version of reality dating show Farmer Wants A Wife.

The program first aired in 2007, and was originally on Channel Nine.

It ran for eight seasons before it was cancelled, before being renewed in 2016 only to be axed again due to disappointing ratings.

But Seven’s premiere proved to be a success as it pulled in 908,000 metro viewers, while an additional 492,000 regional viewers also watched.

This totalled a national audience of 1.4million viewers for the newly revived show’s debut episode, which beat Channel Nine’s Australian Ninja Warrior.
