NTAs 2020: Emmerdale wins Best Serial Drama for the FOURTH year in a row… as Matthew Wolfenden gushes they’re ‘so proud’ of the honour

Emmerdale was awarded Best Serial Drama for the fourth year in a row at the 2020 National Television Awards on Tuesday.

The cast of the ITV soap took to the stage to accept the honour, just days after leaving viewers gripped with a week of episodes leading to the murder of Graham Foster.

Star Matthew Wolfenden – who plays David Metcalfe – spoke on behalf off the cast by saying he’s ‘so proud’ of the prestigious honour.

Emmerdale’s cast couldn’t hide their shock as they took to the stage at London’s O2 Arena, after the ITV stalwart beat out Coronation Street, EastEnders and Hollyoaks. 

Matthew lead the stars in their acceptance speechs, saying: ‘This is the fourth year in a row Emmerdale has picked up the award, which is just unbelievable – we’re so proud of this show.’

He then went onto praise the soap’s behind-the-scenes team for their hard work, after a year of hard-hitting storylines including Maya Stepney’s grooming of teen Jacob Gallagher, and the heartbreaking exit of Robert Sugden.
