‘One step closer to his dreams’: Gabrielle Union gets emotional sending Zaire Wade to New England academy

Gabrielle Union took to Instagram stories with an emotional post Wednesday night, as she prepared to send her stepson Zaire Wade off on his next educational step.

The 47-year-old actress was posed with the 18-year-old in a pink bathrobe, embracing the student athlete in the family home in Los Angeles as he prepared to go to prep school at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

She wrote to more than 16.4 million followers: ‘Sending a young Black man across the country alone to school is scary but I hope @zaire is one step closer to his dreams.’

The Love & Basketball star is mother to Kaavia, one, with former Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade, as well as stepmother to his kids from past relationships, son Zaire, 18, daughter Zaya, 13, and son Xavier, six.

The Bring It On star added: ‘Go be great!’ with a teary emoji. 

On his page, Zaire wrote, ‘I’ma make y’all proud’ with a beaming shot of the famed family, tagging in Union and his dad.

Zaire and nephew Dahveon Morris, 18, graduated this past June from high school and celebrated the milestone with a family celebration at the home.

At the time, Zaire shared a shot of himself and his father hugging, tagging his father and writing ‘we did it’ in the caption.

Union, who’s also been seen in Bring It On, Bad Boys II and Breaking In, also shared a shot of herself hugging Zaire, writing, ‘So proud of you.’

Wade, who also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls during his NBA career, shared an emotional post on the site Wednesday.

‘Dropping your oldest off to school is another set of emotions that I didn’t know existed,’ he wrote. ‘I’m a proud father! My goal as a parent is to raise kids who know their worth and that are better than I could ever be.’

The hoops star added, ‘He’s already way ahead of me at 18. He’s already built different. I’m excited for him to go on this journey of life as he becomes Zaire Wade! Good Luck at Brewster Academy YnG.’
