Parents and a newborn baby are doused in PEPPER-SPRAY during a vicious road rage incident

  • A family have been pepper sprayed during a vicious road rage incident on Friday
  • A six-month-old baby was inside the car while that was travelling in Tumut, NSW
  • The family had been involved in an altercation with occupants of another vehicle
  • Police allege the occupants approached and doused the family in pepper spray 


A family including a newborn child were allegedly doused in pepper spray during a vicious road rage incident in the NSW Riverina region.

A man, 25, and woman, 27, were driving with their six-week-old baby on the Snowy Mountains Highway at Tumut on Friday before a fight broke out with the occupants of another vehicle.

Police allege the cars were stopped when the 20-year-old female driver and her 27-year-old male passenger allegedly approached the family and sprayed them with pepper spray.

Both vehicles drove away from the scene and police located the couple on Fitzroy Street, Tumut, a short time later. 

After a brief search, police located two cannisters of pepper spray inside the vehicle.

Police charged the 27-year-old male passenger with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit.  

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tumut Local Court on January 13 next year.

The 20-year-old female driver was charged with one count of possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit and one count of stalk/intimidate intend fear of physical/mental harm.

She was granted unconditional bail to appear at the same court on the same day as the man.

Police said there were no reports of serious injuries from the incident.
