Patrick Mahomes delivered Kansas City its first Super Bowl championship in 50 years in just his second season as the Chiefs starting quarterback.
And in the midst of all the pomp and circumstance following his team’s 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49’ers, Mahomes and longtime love Brittany Matthews made a bee-line for each other for an emotional embrace full of hugs and kisses.
What makes the heartfelt embrace even more special: the couple are high school sweethearts who have been dating since the 10th grade.

Moments after the final ticks of the game clock and the confetti fell from the rafters, Mahomes picked up his ladylove for a full-body embrace, complete with her legs wrapped firmly around 6ft 3in frame.
The two stared into each other’s eyes, said a few brief words, and then shared a number of smooches.
Relishing one of life’s most special moments as a competitor and athlete, the couple remained locked into each other for a healthy duration.
Not long after, Matthews shared a photo on Instagram of the couple going in for a kiss on the crowded and littered field with the caption: ‘We fought for our right to PAAAARTYYYY #chiefskingdom.’

That emotional embrace in the wake of victory almost didn’t come to fruition.

Down 20 to 10 with just over six minutes to go in the game, the 2018-19 season MVP found his grove and lit up the gridiron with two touchdown passes to seal the win and the Super Bowl MVP trophy.

Matthews and Mahomes are actually high school sweethearts, who first started dating when he was sophomores and she was a junior in Whitehouse, Texas.
Their courtship even included going to the prom together.
After graduating high school in 2013, Matthews went on to play soccer at nearby University of Texas at Tyler, while Mahomes, who graduated in 2014, went on to play at Texas Tech University, some 400 plus miles away.
She ended up moving to Kansas City after Mahomes was drafted by the Chiefs with the 10th pick in the NFL draft in 2017.
