  • The 34-year-old has been linked with Marseille, Rennes and six Brazilian clubs

David Luiz could reportedly be in line for a stunning return to PSG this summer following his release from Arsenal

The 34-year-old’s deal at the Emirates runs out at the end of this month and with an extension already confirmed not to be in the pipeline, Luiz is considering his options.

Marseille, Rennes and top-flight clubs back in his homeland of Brazil have all been linked but The Sun are reporting that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelfari is making moves behind the scenes to re-sign Luiz, who played for the club from 2014-2016.

The report details that Qatari Al-Khelafi is a ‘big fan’ of centre back Luiz’s flamboyant style from defence.

However, the report also notes that manager Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo are not so convinced by the prospect of re-signing Luiz.

The defender won two Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups and one French League Cup during his prosperous two-year stay at the Parc des Princes, either side of spells at Chelsea.

But as well as fellow Ligue 1 clubs Marseille and Rennes showing interest, Goal says as many as six Brazilian clubs are keen on Luiz.

Corinthians, Atletico Mineiro, Flamengo, Sao Paulo, Gremio and Palmeiras have all been linked, but Luiz is believed to be keen on remaining in Europe for the time being.

Luiz would be available on a free transfer following the end of his two-year stay at Arsenal.

He moved from the Blues to Arsenal in 2019 and made 73 appearances for the Gunners, under both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta.

The Brazilian did win the FA Cup under Arteta in an otherwise difficult few years for the Gunners – he has also won the Champions League, Premier League and Europa League during his two spells at Chelsea.
