Radio host admits to blowing prize money from The Mole

‘How I blew thousands of dollars in prize money from The Mole’: Radio host admits to wasting cash on sunglasses, flights and a fancy phone when she was a 18-year-old student

A Brisbane radio presenter has revealed how she stupidly blew thousands of dollars worth of prize money after appearing on the hit game show The Mole, 20 years ago.

Hit105’s Abby Coleman got her start in the entertainment industry by competing on the Channel 7 program when she was just 18, and while she was runner-up, winner Jan Moody generously shared some of her $115,000 windfall.

Speaking to her radio co-hosts Matty Acton and Stav Davidson on Friday, Abby revealed that Jan graciously gifted her $5000 which she quickly ‘blew’ on a new phone, sunglasses and several interstate flights.

‘I lost my mobile phone on a night out so I bought a new phone,’ Abby said.

‘I lost my Oakley’s overboard doing the Titanic, so also got some of that…

‘Umm… I got some flights interstate… So I blew it.’

Abby starred on The Mole, which was hosted by actor Grant Bowler, when it premiered in February 2000. She was a student at the time.

Based on a European reality game show, a group of contestants would work together to complete a series of challenges to win money which one of them would eventually take home.

However, among the group was ‘a mole’, who was hired by the network to sabotage the group’s money-making efforts.

At the end of each episode, the contestants would fill in a questionnaire answering who they thought the secret ‘mole’ was.

The person who knew the least would be eliminated each week.

Abby became the series runner-up after she incorrectly identified Jan as ‘the mole’ in the final episode.

Since appearing on the show, Abby has carved out a successful career as a radio presenter and comedian.

She is also a mother of three, sharing three sons, Finlay, seven, Jagger, four and Koan, one, with husband Scott Burdon.
