The luxury fashion brand placed at least 15 plastic bags on the sidewalk outside its flagship store on the Upper East Side on Tuesday.

NYC Sanitation took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to hit out at Ralph Lauren for putting its trash bags on the street.

It also claimed that the luxury fashion brand put its waste out ‘too early’ on two days in a row.

The department pointed to how small businesses were managing to follow the rules.

‘As a CHAIN BUSINESS, you are now REQUIRED to containerize your trash,’ it wrote.

‘And the trash at your “flagship” is out WAY too early two days in a row!

‘Many of NYC’s small businesses are already following the rules…’

The new sanitation rules came into effect on Tuesday for all chain stores with five or more locations in New York City- Ralph Lauren has seven stores in the city.

Businesses that qualify are required to use firm containers with closed lids to put their trash outside for collection.

It does not matter what items are sold, under the new rules, all companies have to comply.

Waste is also only allowed to be placed on the curb one hour before a store closes or after 8pm.

The Ralph Lauren flagship store closes at 6pm. It is not clear what time they put out the trash as the NYC Sanitation post was made at around 8pm.

Similar sanitation rules were brought in for food-related businesses on August 1.

A one-month grace period was provided to owners with a $50 fine for a first offence, $100 for the second and $200 for the third.

NYC Sanitation has reported that New Yorkers are having fewer interactions with rats with complaints down 20 percent already this summer.

A Ralph Lauren spokesman said: ‘This issue is now resolved. We have addressed this directly with all of our NYC stores and will ensure compliance with the new container mandate.

‘We apologize for any inconvenience this caused for the Department of Sanitation.’
