Rat-tailed ‘road rager’ unmasked: How driver at the centre of viral video is no stranger to highway cops

A man with a rat’s tail hairdo who allegedly leapt out of his car to threaten another driver in the middle of a highway has been revealed as a repeat offender.

Daniel Huynh, 22, allegedly jumped out of his Volkswagen Golf hatchback at a red light in Clayton, Melbourne‘s southeast, at about 12.30pm on October 27 to verbally abuse a motorist directly behind him.

Footage of the alleged incident over the weekend was shared on social media by Dashcam Owners Australia.

Huynh’s identity has now been revealed, and he has had string of charges against him.

The fate of the man was shrouded in mystery until Tuesday, when police broke their silence

Records indicate he has appeared in court for five separate driving-related offences in Dandenong, Prahran and Moorabbin, dating back to 2019.

In footage of his latest alleged incident, Huynh could be seen getting out of his vehicle at a set of lights and skipping furiously toward the motorist behind him – while making threatening gestures and yelling.

When he reached the window, he started swearing and hitting the other car, before he suddenly started to sprint down the highway.

Two police officers could then be seen running after him.

On Tuesday, Victoria Police confirmed that Huynh tried to evade police on foot, leaving his passenger alone in the car.

He then handed himself in to police.

‘Investigators have been told a man approached a car on the Princes Highway near Clayton Road about 12.30pm in an aggressive manner,’ a police spokeswoman said.

‘As he was remonstrating with the driver police approached the 22-year-old.

‘He ran from the scene leaving his vehicle and passenger behind.

‘He later handed himself in to police and has been charged with criminal damage, unlawful assault and traffic offences.’

Huynh was granted bail and will appear in Moorabbin Justice Centre on February 6, 2024.
