Real Madrid ‘miss out on €15million of revenue in four days’ as huge clashes take place without fans

Real Madrid ‘miss out on £13m in just FOUR DAYS’ due to huge Champions League clash against Liverpool and Saturday’s Clasico with Barcelona being played behind closed doors

  • Real Madrid have played home games this term at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano
  • Los Blancos lost £7.8million from their three Champions League home games
  • Work is currently taking place at the Bernabeu – to be completed by 2022-23
  • Zinedine Zidane’s men face Barcelona tonight with the visitors in red-hot form
  • Ronald Koeman’s sit just one point behind struggling leaders Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid have reportedly missed out on €15million (£13m) of revenue by having their matches against Liverpool and Barcelona behind closed doors despite reduced expenses.

Zinedine Zidane’s men beat the Reds 3-1 in midweek at the empty Estadio Alfredo di Stefano – which Jurgen Klopp criticised – and now have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals.

And now the Spanish giants face the prospect of El Clasico on Saturday without their passionate fans – as well as a significant hit to their finances, according to MARCA

Real Madrid have seen their finances take a huge hit this term with games behind closed doors

Work is currently being undertaken on the Bernabeu while games take place behind closed doors and it is hoped that modernisation will take place in time for the 2022-23 season, with the team due to move back to their iconic home next season.

Their first-leg tie against the English champions would have brought in around €10m (£8.7m) more for the club in front of a packed house (excluding the money paid by season-ticket holders), while the clash with their fierce Spanish rivals would have seen the club take about €5m (£4.3m) more.

Zidane’s side – who currently sit three points behind city and LaLiga rivals Atletico in third – even lost an average of €3m (£2.6m) in revenue from Champions League group-stage games against less-fancied sides Borussia Monchengladbach, Atalanta and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Real face a Barca side who have managed to recover from an awful start to the season and are now one point off top spot.

Ronald Koeman’s men are on a six-match winning streak in the league, with Lionel Messi netting seven goals of the team’s 18 goals in that time.

Their last away match saw them hit fifth-placed Real Sociedad for six, with Messi and Sergino Dest each bagging doubles, while Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele also got on the scoresheet.
