Rebecca Black: Friday star, 23, is hardly recognisable during TV interview

Rebecca Black doesn’t look like this anymore! Friday star, 23, is hardly recognisable in TV interview 10 years after recording ‘the worst song ever’

Rebecca Black rose to fame at the age of 13 when she released her single Friday, which was soon dubbed the ‘worst song ever made’.

And the YouTube singer looks hardly recognisable these days, a decade after becoming an overnight viral sensation.

She appeared on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show on Friday to discuss the legacy of Friday and what she’s up to now.

Rebecca, 23, has ditched the dark hair and girl-next-door look she sported in the infamous music video for Friday in 2011.

She instead has a choppy fringe and bright pink locks, and prefers dramatic makeup featuring dark eyeliner and pink eyeshadow.

She looked trendy during her Australian TV appearance in a fluffy neon jacket, and accessorised with a choker necklace and earrings.

Rebecca, who has recorded a new version of Friday for its tenth anniversary, spoke to hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies about her new look.

‘I dye my hair because I like my hair like this, I wear clothes that I like and I had no idea what I was doing at 13, like anybody else was,’ she said.

‘It’s been a lot of experimenting and trying and I’m not really concerned anymore with trying to redefine myself like that. I’m just really allowing myself to do and be the person who she wants to be and express herself as she is.’

Working hard: Rebecca also revealed that she is working on some new music and she even re-released a new version of Friday for it's tenth anniversary

Rebecca also revealed she was working on new music to be released this year.

‘I have been working really hard on a bigger project and that will be coming this year,’ she said.

‘I’m just really so stoked to have this music out and  to be able to finally let people in on a side of myself that I’ve been cultivating for a while.’

Rebecca recorded Friday and shot a music video in 2011 with the help of ARK Music Factory, a now-defunct musical composition and production company based in Los Angeles which made songs and videos for paying clients.

Rebecca’s mother, Georgina Kelly, paid ARK Music $4,000 for its services.

The heavily auto-tuned song and its cringeworthy music video were later uploaded to YouTube and Rebecca became a viral celebrity.

Despite her early notoriety, she has released a handful serious singles and collaborated with the likes of Katy Perry.
