Rebecca Judd: The heartbreaking day my mother left my father

Rebecca Judd’s heartbreaking family secret: Footy WAG reveals her earliest memory is of comforting her father on the day her mother ‘left’ him when she was just four years old

Parents getting divorced is one of the hardest things a child can go through, and the transition often leaves deep psychological scars.

And Rebecca Judd has shared her own experience of coming from a broken home, revealing that her earliest memory is of the day her mother ‘left’ her father when she was just four years old.

During a discussion about break-ups on The 3pm Pick-Up on Tuesday, the 37-year-old footy WAG said she vividly remembered ‘dad was crying’.

Her co-host Katie ‘Monty’ Dimond asked: ‘Do you remember your parents telling you [they were separating]?’

Rebecca: ‘Yup, I remember the day mum left. I was with dad, and dad was crying. That’s my earliest memory. Isn’t that crazy?’

While she didn’t go into further detail, the former Nine News weather presenter has previously said her parents’ divorce had a profound impact on her life.

Rebecca told Sunday Life magazine in May 2019: ‘Growing up, I hated that I didn’t have my mum and dad together.

‘Everyone else seemed to have mum and dad living together… I would see dad at weekends.’

Following her parents’ split, Rebecca and her sister, sister Kate Twigley, went to live with her mother, Kerry Brown, and her new partner.

She would visit her father, Hugh Twigley, and stepmother during the school holidays because they lived regionally.

‘You know when you’re a kid and you do not want to be different? That was what made me different,’ she added.

These days, Rebecca is happily married to retired AFL player Chris Judd, with whom she shares four children, Oscar, nine, Billie, six and twins Tom and Darcy, three.

The Judd family lives in a $7.3million mansion in Brighton, an upmarket suburb in Melbourne’s south-east.
