Robbie Keane is emerging as a serious contender to become new LA Galaxy head coach.

The MLS club confirmed the departure of boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto on Thursday – and Keane is in the running to replace him.

The former Republic of Ireland international is widely recognised as one of LA Galaxy’s greatest ever players – scoring 83 goals in 125 goals appearances.

His return to Los Angeles would certainly come as a major boost to supporters who idolise Keane.

The Irishman worked under Jonathan Woodgate at Middlesbrough but left the Riverside club in June.

But he is now in line for a return to football across the Atlantic.
