Roy Keane doubts Tottenham can win the title this season

Roy Keane doubts Harry Kane and Jose Mourinho ‘X Factor’ will be enough to fire Tottenham to the title as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink claims Spurs boss will be ‘absolutely delighted’ with Chelsea draw

Chelsea dominated the possession and chances at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but Tottenham held them to a 0-0 draw, meaning Spurs are back at the top of the table.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Roy Keane and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink disagreed over whether Tottenham’s defensive approach would be enough to win them a title.

‘It’s very pragmatic,’ the former Chelsea man said. ‘[Mourinho] takes a point here and when he needs to win he wins. He’s a serial winner.’

However, Keane was less impressed, saying: ‘He’s done it before, his CV is fantastic. But I don’t think this group he has at Spurs is good enough to win the title.

‘They’ve got the X Factor with Mourinho and Harry Kane, but I don’t think that’s good enough. They were hanging on at the end there. I think Spurs can have a very good season but that’s very different to winning the league.’

‘That’s where I disagree with you,’ Hasselbaink replied. ‘They’ve still got Bale on the bench, Dele Alli not involved. It’s a long season and they will play their part and I think they have a lot.

‘I’ve never seen them with a better squad and I’ve never seen them being so professional in their approach of game, in game management and that will take you far.’

Tottenham are top of the league on goal difference, while Chelsea sit two points behind them and Liverpool in third place.

‘Mounrinho will be delighted,’ said Hasselbaink. ‘One point, normally Spurs come to the Bridge and they lose. Those players are happy in the dressing room as they’re still top of the league. There was nothing there for them today, and they got away with it.’

Keane and Hasselbaink then discussed terms on a friendly wager of who would come out on top, with the former Manchester United man claiming that Manchester City are still better than Spurs, despite being down in ninth place.

However, both agreed that defending champions Liverpool are still the team to beat.

‘I don’t think we’d be having this discussion if Liverpool had everybody fit and Man City were the Man City of a few years ago,’ said Jamie Redknapp. ‘But right now, he’s got this Spurs team playing a brand of football that we don’t associate with Tottenham.

‘We associate them with playing nice football, going forward. This team will win it being pragmatic. Don’t expect anything where Tottenham are going to be exciting, there’s going to be games like this where they’re gonna hang in there, get their 0-0’s, 1-0’s, 2-0 like last week and that’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, even for Spurs fans. They haven’t won for a long time though and they want to win.’
