But some eagle-eyed observers have noted there may be a nod to his mother in his first name, Archie.

As well as Twitter users, followers of the Duke and Duchess’s Sussex Royal Instagram account have taken to the comments to point out that Archie is a near-anagram of Meghan’s real name, Rachel.

This is the Christian moniker the former actress was given by her parents and the more commonly known Meghan is actually her middle name.

Ironically, Meghan shares her birth name with the Suits character that made her famous – Rachel Zane.

Archie contains all the letters present in Rachel, bar the ‘l’ – though when capped up, the ‘i’ in the youngsters name could pass for an ‘l’.

Speaking about her new son, whom she described as ‘magic’, the Duchess cooed: ‘I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy.’

She added that Archie has ‘the sweetest temperament’ and has been a ‘dream’ for his first few days.

Another theory about the tot’s name doing the rounds is that the moniker is a tribute to Prince George – Harry’s nephew.

Months before his birth, five-year-old George made the surprising revelation to a passerby that his nickname is ‘Archie’.

The young prince was walking with his grandmother, Carole Middleton, near her home in Berkshire, when he struck up a conversation with a dog walker.

Some fans have also joked that their pets now share a name with a Royal Family member – with Archie proving to be a very popular moniker for pet hounds.
