Singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, 45, performed her hit song You Oughta Know during the big street party with the cast of the Broadway show Jagged Little Pill inspired by her album of the same name.

Alanis poured her heart into the performance amid wind and rain, but some fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the song being censored.

One fan tweeted: ‘During live performance of ‘You Oughta Know’, ABC #rockineve drops out ‘An older version of me’ and ‘Would she go down on you in a theater?’. It plays as is on radio stations all across the country #jaggedlittlepill’.

Thousands of police officers were on hand for the Times Square festivities, plus more than 1,000 security cameras, helicopters and drones equipped with thermal-imaging and 3D-mapping capabilities and super-zoom lenses.

After the crowd counted down to midnight,  fireworks burst into the night sky and confetti fell to welcome the start of 2020.

In one of the globe’s most-watched New Year’s Eve spectacles, the Times Square crowd counted down the last seconds of 2019 as a luminescent crystal ball descended down a pole. Throngs of people cheered and sang along to the X Ambassadors’ soul-stirring rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine just before midnight.

About 3,000 pounds (1,360 kilograms) of confetti showered the sea of attendees, many of whom were also briefly rained on earlier in the evening as they waited in security pens for the performances by Post Malone, BTS, country singer Sam and singer-songwriter Alanis.
