Ryan Sessegnon has become the latest Premier League star to reveal that he has received vile racist abuse on social media.

The Tottenham winger, who is currently on loan at Hoffenheim, shared a screenshot of several messages he received from another Instagram user, who called him a ‘f****** n*****’ and a ‘slave’.

The 20-year-old wrote ‘honestly unbelievable’ before admitting that this sort of abuse no longer comes as a surprise to him.

He said: ‘Honestly unbelievable smh (shaking my head). The craziest thing is I’m not even surprised anymore. Disgusting.’

Sessegnon received the sickening racist messages on Monday night, shortly before the offending profile was removed from Instagram.

Sessegnon joins a number of players in England’s top-flight to be targeted by racists on social media, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Troy Deeney and Wilfried Zaha all speaking out on the abuse they have received.

Last month, Watford skipper Deeney revealed many Premier League footballers have fallen victim to vile messages sent from users on social media platforms which contain racial slurs and sickening abuse.

Deeney went on to outline how he follows the correct procedure each time in attempting to report the abuse to make the online platforms a safer place, only to be told the use of a monkey emoji and a banana is not considered racist.

Even more shockingly, Deeney alleged in his SunSport column last month that he was once told by a social media company that him being called a ‘black c***’ by an online media user did not constitute hate speech.

Deeney questioned whether social media platforms may even benefit from these shameful interactions due to the accelerated publicity it causes.

‘Do these companies even want to change things? Do they want to stop the abuse?’ Deeney wrote.

‘If a high-profile black player such as Raheem Sterling is experiencing racial abuse then everyone piles in and that drives traffic, which increases their advertising and profits.’

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha was another Premier League player subjected to racist abuse

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha was another Premier League player subjected to racist abuse

Earlier this summer, Zaha was the victim of racist abuse, which led to the arrest of a 12-year-old Aston Villa fan, after he was told to ‘not score tomorrow you black c***’ before Crystal Palace’s game with the Villians last season.

In the days following the disgusting abuse Zaha received, Sheffield United star David McGoldrick was also targeted after he received message calling him a ‘f***ing dirty n*****’ and an ‘ape’.

Last month, Sportsmail revealed that black players are now disillusioned with English football’s ambition to force change and are preparing to turn their backs on ‘ineffective’ anti-discrimination PR campaign

Sportsmail has learned that a host of players have declined to contribute to publicity drives, and others are considering doing the same amid disappointment at their success.

There is a worrying perception that such awareness initiatives are simply a public relations exercise.

The growing cynicism comes just days after the Premier League completed their own anti-discrimination campaign — No Room For Racism.

Some players who gave the green light to be interviewed were said to be perplexed by the line of questioning, including asking black players whether they had discussed racism with their children and whether a white player had ever defended them in the face of discriminatory abuse.
