But they were then told they would be visited by a doctor and could be forced to stay in hospital if they were found to have symptoms.

Fearing they could be separated from their son in a foreign country due to their mild symptoms, Querrey and Dixon reportedly ordered a private jet to whisk them out of Russia.

They are now staying in an unknown ‘nearby European country’ according to freelance journalist Ben Rothenberg.

In an email to players and members, the ATP said: ‘The ATP is aware of an incident regarding a player’s serious breach of protocol relating to COVID-19 at this week’s St. Petersburg Open.

‘Adhering to health and safety protocols is critical to ensure events take place safely within the guidelines established by local authorities.

In an email to players and members, the ATP said it would launch an investigation into the ‘serious breach of protocol’

‘Players and their support team members are reminded that breaches of protocol can jeopardise an event’s ability to operate and have repercussions on the rest of the Tour.

‘In accordance with ATP’s Code of Conduct, we are taking this matter extremely seriously and an investigation is underway.’

Querrey is entered in further events in the rest of the 2020 ATP Calendar, including the Paris-Bercy Masters beginning on October 31.

If the ATP deems the breach of protocol a ‘serious offence’ after its investigation, Querrey could be fined up to $100,000 and/or suspended from the ATP for up to three years.
