Savvy homeowner transforms her two and three seater sofa into a trendy corner piece

Woman reveals how she created a DIY L-shaped corner sofa by combining her old two and three-seaters – using just a saw, panel pins and carpet glue

A thrifty homeowner has told how she transformed her two and three seater sofas into one trendy corner piece – using a saw, panel pins and carpet glue.

Sinead Elaine, from Leicester, shared the impressive before and after photos to Facebook group DIY On A Budget Official, before explaining how she’d wanted the L-shaped furniture for ages, but just couldn’t afford it.   

She continued: ‘I had the crazy idea of changing my sofa to a corner sofa instead (2 seater and 3 seater) crazy I know! But anyhow I went ahead and tried and this was the outcome.’

And the post quickly racked up over 7, 800 likes and 400 comments, with many branding the idea ‘genius.’ 

‘Wow, well done. You would never know either just looks like you bought a corner sofa,’ praised one, while a second enthused: ‘Well done. You don’t need a new one now looks great.’

A third added: ‘Great idea! Well done!’ while a fourth encouraged: ‘Well done. Anything is possible if you just give it your best.’

In the unrecognisable snaps, the before photos show the two and three seater sofas positioned in one straight line, taking up the entire back wall of the living room.

However, following Sinead’s impressive efforts, the new, L-shaped sofa can be seen offering a modern and updated look to the room.

The savvy homeowner went on to explain she achieved the results using nothing but a saw, panel pins, carpet glue and a lot of sweat – before adding she was ‘over the moon with the outcome.’

Impressed homeowners were quick to take to the comments section, with one writing: 'Fab job,' and another adding: 'Brilliant idea'

That’s brilliant well done, ‘ praised one impressed social media user, while a second added: ‘Looks really good well done! We did the same a few months ago with ours and you wouldn’t know any different.’

A third penned: ‘My husband done this when we moved but from a 3 seater to a chair because was too big for out house. Well done looks good.’

Sinead went on to explain how she was overwhelmed with the positive response and had been inundated with questions about her renovation. 

‘As the sofa is only temporary until we get a new one I’ve used large cushions from Ikea as scatter cushions,’ she explained.

‘There is only a tiny gap but when the cushions are there it’s just as comfy, if anything it’s more comfy. But thank you for all your kinds words and remember don’t be afraid of trying something, it’s a lesson learnt and anything can be replaced.’
