A father of a bride-to-be has caused a stir online after stating that he will not walk his young daughter down the aisle alongside her stepfather.
The man turned to a Reddit forum to tell of his explosive argument with this daughter that escalated to the point where he has threatened not to attend the wedding at all.
He was surprised when his daughter Chloe, who he had only reconnected with when she was 16 years old, asked him to walk her down the aisle on her big day but was shocked to discover she had also asked her stepfather who helped raise her.

‘I was taken back when (Chloe) told me she was considering having me AND her stepdad walk her down the aisle. I went to have a conversation with her to talk about how uncomfortable I was with this idea,’ the man wrote.
He later revealed he had not been involved in Chloe’s life throughout the majority of her childhood and that she was five years old when her mother married her stepfather who the man called a ‘somewhat decent guy, nosy, but decent’.
He said despite his daughter being open to patching up their relationship, Chloe’s mother makes ‘judgemental remarks’ about how her stepfather is her ‘real/legal parent and always had been’.

Chloe explained to her biological dad that her stepfather has ‘played a huge part in her life’ and she wanted to include him in her special day but the man stood firm and said there was ‘no way’ he would share the role.
‘I told her of course and I absolutely won’t invalidate her feelings or deny how much of a good influence her stepdad’s been but I just don’t feel comfortable with it and told her it’d be okay if I was just a guest there, but she said she wants me to be part of this so bad,’ he said.
The pair continued to argue, with Chloe saying her biological dad’s resentment towards her stepfather was ‘ruining her wedding’, until the man eventually threatened not to attend the big day at all if she ‘continues to force the issue’.
He said Chloe’s mother berated him saying he was causing a fuss ‘just because she dared show appreciation for the man who stepped up and was more of parent to her than (he’ll) ever be’.
Chloe has since stopped answering her father’s calls so he reached out to her fiancé, who sided with his bride-to-be.
Reddit users unleashed on the man, branding him selfish and saying he should bite the bullet to preserve his relationship with his daughter.

‘I would not invite the man who abandoned me at three to my wedding, let alone give him such an important role. She is offering you a chance and you are throwing it away,’ one person wrote.
‘It’s a kindness to even be invited and put into consideration for that role. Yet, there’s always this one a***hole who thinks they can just buzz back in and do all the “fun stuff,” like showing off what a wonderful daughter someone else raised,’ said a second.
The man held his ground on the issue in response to the backlash saying he’s happy for Chloe’s stepfather to walk her down the aisle by himself and even blamed her mother for letting another man raise their daughter in his absence.
‘Men like this definitely exist, they can’t see past their own ego and won’t stop until they “win”, they don’t care who they hurt,’ one user replied.
