Shazam’s Zachary Levi announces he’ll star with Cole Sprouse in musical comedy Undercover

He headlined the DC Comics movie Shazam! released last year.

And on Tuesday, Zachary Levi excitedly shared the news that he’s set to team up with Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse for the big screen musical comedy Undercover.

The actor, 39, tweeted: ‘So stoked to announce my latest project “Under Cover”, starring @colesprouse and myself, and to be directed by my pal #StevePink! Music & comedy, what more can ya ask for?! A big thank you to @lionsgate @mandfilms @liebermantodd et al for bringing this baby to life!’

Deadline.com reported that Levi will star in Undercover as Jack, a down-on-his-luck rocker-turned-father, who, to make ends meet, secretly joins a group of young musicians in a wedding cover band led by misfit Ben, Cole Sprouse. 

Things start looking up for this ragtag band, but when Jack’s secret gets revealed, he rediscovers what’s truly important in life while teaching Ben to find his own voice as a musical talent.

Filmmaker Steve Pink directed Hot Tub Time Machine and its sequel and wrote the screenplays for Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane said in a statement: ‘Like School of Rock and Pitch Perfect, Undercover is a movie that unites audiences with the way the cast interprets and performs familiar songs.’

‘Not only is it hilarious and charming, but it’s going to be a blast to see personalities like Zachary and Cole own their performances of so many classics.’  

Since Shazam!, Levi has appeared in Amazon’s the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and has recently wrapped filming on the drama Prisoner 760 opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and Jodie Foster. 

He also appeared as Fandrel in the Marvel films Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.

In addition to Riverdale, Sprouse, 27, is best known for the  Disney Channel series’ The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck.
