Shoppers ’embarrassed’ over problem with popular Kmart buy – as the store merges into ‘mega business’ with Target

  • Shoppers complain their Kmart jeans have ripped
  • Several were left feeling ’embarrassed’

Customers have voiced their complaints about an ’embarrassing’ blunder in a popular pair of women’s jeans from Kmart.

Paula bought the $25 bootleg mid-rise jeans twice only to be left disappointed after the pants ripped along the back seam.

‘This is the second time this has happened – exact same jeans and place of fray,’ she wrote and shared images on Facebook

‘They gladly let me exchange them but I’m to nervous to ask for another exchange or store credit.’

Several other shoppers admitted their Kmart jeans have also ripped recently.

Others who claim their jeans also ripped were left feeling disappointed and ‘humiliated.’

‘Same thing happened to a pair I had too. I binned them and just glad it happened at home and not out in public,’ one shopper commented.

‘Same thing happened to me too!! So embarrassed,’ another admitted.

‘My exact same jeans did it in crotch,’ a third said.

One woman said she was able to receive a full refund too.

‘Mine did the same thing and took them back and got a refund there is a fault in them,’ she said.

‘The customer service lady told me she had had about 15 pairs returned the week I returned mine.’

Kmart and Target set to merge into one $10billion mega business

Three years after 167 Target stores were either shut or converted to Kmart outlets, parent company Wesfarmers is merging the running of the two businesses.

Target is being folded into Kmart to create a $10billion business aiming to offer better value to customers and greater profits for Wesfarmers.

Ian Bailey, who became the managing director of Kmart Group in 2018, said the two stores will still operate as separate brands, with Kmart still being price-driven and Target mainly centred on affordable clothes and soft home furnishings.

He said the changes will be behind the scenes in areas such as technology and purchasing, and there would only be a ‘handful of redundancies’.

Mr Bailey expects the current cost-of-living crisis affecting Australians to last for a while longer.

‘I see value being really front and centre for a long time,’ he told the Australian Financial Review. ‘What we’re seeing is when we can consistently hit good products at great prices, then there’s plenty of demand out there.’

A Kmart spokesperson told FEMAIL customers are encouraged to contact the department store regarding product issues to ensure the concern can be quickly resolved.

‘At Kmart we pride ourselves on selling great quality products at low prices that our customers love,’ the spokesperson said.

‘Our quality team have just been made aware of instances where customers Bootleg Jeans in Midwash have torn, and have taken immediate steps to investigate this.

‘In the meantime, we will be taking this product off sale until we have finished our investigation.’

Daily Mail Australia understands Kmart has sold tens of thousands of these pairs of jeans over a year with a low return rate and suppliers are being urgently contacted.
