Madeleine West breaks down in tears and makes a desperate plea for ‘more hands’ as she helps with the flood clean up in devastated Northern NSW
Madeleine West has made an emotional appeal for more volunteers to help clean up in the wake of the floods which have wreaked havoc in Northern NSW.
Posting a video filmed in the wreckage strewn streets of Lismore’s CBD, the former Neighbours star broke down several times as she made her brief message.
‘Its really, really bad,’ she said on Friday. ‘I don’t know how to describe the devastation.’
Dressed in a black leggings and an Adidas singlet top, West, who lives in the Byron Bay suburb of Suffolk Park about 45 minutes from the area, said everything in the regional city was ‘destroyed, smashed or washed away.’
Countless towns in Northern NSW and Queensland have been left devastated by catastrophic floods in recent days, with the clean up effort only now able to begin in some areas while others remain submerged.
Lismore received 700mm of rain in just 30 hours by Monday afternoon, leaving most of the regional centre of 43,000 underwater.
‘There’s a lot of people wandering around looking a bit startled,’ West said in the video, which showed large piles of garbage lining the street.

‘Everything is just covered in mud, mud that you just can’t clean off,’ she said, before asking for more ‘hands’ to help.
Thanking for the community for donations, West then pleaded with influencers to show some support.
‘If you are going onto socials to promote a product or to show off your new fashion or a luxury brand…I just wanted to ask whether you could be quiet for a few days,’ she said.

West explained it was important to give emergency services a ‘medium to communicate exactly what they need.’
The situation, West said was incomprehensible, she said before signing off with by telling viewers to ‘stay safe.’
