Taylor Swift will not be a ‘surprise performer’ at the Grammys… as sexism allegations rock the Recording Academy just days before the event

Taylor Swift has dropped out of performing at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

While the Lover hitmaker was never officially confirmed as a performer at the annual music awards ceremony this weekend, Variety reports that she was set to be lined up for a surprise performance.

Sources have revealed that the 30-year-old singer – who is nominated for three awards at the ceremony – had been tentatively confirmed as the last remaining ‘TBA’ artist on the rehearsal schedule, but she has now decided she won’t be taking to the stage as sexual misconduct allegations continue to surface within the academy.

As of the time of writing, Taylor has not commented on the news, and the reason for her reported cancellation has not been confirmed.

It has also been reported that Taylor will no longer appear at the ceremony at all, despite a tentative seating plan which was released earlier this week, and which saw her sat next to K-Pop group BTS, and one row behind Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

‘It’s unconfirmed whether her quietly bowing out is directly related to the scandal involving the allegations flying back and forth between the Academy trustees and ousted CEO Deborah Dugan,’ the source told Page Six.

In the midst of it all, Scott Borchetta recently opened up during the Billboard Power Event that he is still rooting for Taylor.

The Big Machine Label Group executive opened up saying ‘I’m always gonna root for her,’ before adding ‘she’s brilliant and we’ve had a historic run.’

The ‘historic run’ Borchetta is referring to is the recent purchase late last year of all of her masters except her latest Lover album.

Borchetta did not write or have a hand in any of the Grammy winner’s music.

Swift has been open about her inability to purchase her catalogs and even made a powerful speech during the American Music Awards where she addressed the ongoing battle.

Whilst Taylor’s attendance remains unconfirmed, Demi Lovato announced earlier this month she will be performing at the ceremony, and recently revealed she’d be using the stage to unveil new track ‘Anyone’.

Confirming her appearance, she wrote on Instagram alongside a professional photograph of her sitting on a sofa with the word ‘Grammy Performer’ written down the side: ‘I told you the next time you’d hear from me I’d be singing #GRAMMYs @recordingacademy @cbstv (sic)’

Other confirmed performers include Lil Nas X, who will be taking to the stage with his ‘Old Town Road’ collaborators Billy Ray Cyrus and Diplo, as well as BTS, whose lead member RM teamed up with Nas on a remix of the hit track titled ‘Seoul Town Road’.

The star-studded bash at The Staples Center in Los Angeles will also see performances from the likes of Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Jonas Brothers, Alicia Keys and more.
