Detective Constable Scott Marshall-Bowater said: ‘I am delighted that Bould is now behind bars facing the consequences of his actions.

‘He is only 18 years old and I hope he spends his time in custody regretting, and learning from, his actions and that he goes on to turn his life around.’

The victim was walking his parents dog around 10.30pm when he realised he was being followed by Alfie after passing him in the doorway of a pub.

Alfie used his machete to demand cash from the dog walker who tried to run away.

Alfie chased after him violently swinging the machete at the victim and the dog.

The dog frantically ran with its walker but could not keep up.

The victim gave his phone over to Alfie and pulled his pockets out to prove that he did not have any cash.

Alfie ran away with the phone and the victim reported the robbery to the police who arrested Alfie about an hour later.

The police were able to arrest Alfie from the victim’s description, the recovery of the victim’s stolen phone in a nearby park and finding Alfie’s machete the next day in a garden near where he was arrested.

‘I also hope that this case deters others from carrying weapons and committing similar offences,’ said Detective Marshall-Bowater.

Cheshire Constabulary’s knife crime lead, Chief Inspector Sarah Heath, took the case very seriously and said:  ‘When people carry knives it is only a matter of time before someone suffers life changing injuries or is killed, and the simple fact is if you carry a knife then you are much more likely to be involved in a knife crime.

‘Our aim is for weapon-free streets throughout the county and we will continue to endeavour – through education, awareness and action – to make Cheshire a county in which no-one carries a knife or feels that there is a reason to do so.’

Chief Inspector Heath also explained their approach to dealing with knife crime as one that includes local authorities, education, organisations, youth groups and community groups.

‘The police cannot achieve this goal on our own knife crime is a societal problem that cannot be solved without the support of the whole society,’ she said.
