‘It’s a global dictatorship!’ The bizarre 1am email sent to the ENTIRE NSW police force questioning the state’s ‘oppressive’ coronavirus lockdown

  • The six-page open letter was addressed to NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller
  • It was signed off by Senior Constable Alexander Cooney, a highway patrol officer
  • He claimed he sought to ‘raise the alarm that a global dictatorship is occurring’

A disgruntled cop penned a six-page letter to the state’s police commissioner laden with COVID-19 conspiracy theories and sent it to the entire NSW Police force at 1am.

Titled ‘Open Letter to the Commissioner: Tyranny of Government, or Best Interests of the People?’, the document was sent on October 26, five months after NSW came out of lockdown.

It was signed off by Senior Constable Alexander Cooney, a highway patrol officer from Coffs Harbour, north of Sydney, and called into questioned the legitimacy of the state’s coronavirus response.

‘Many members of the force are fed up with the approach to enforce oppressive rules placed upon the population in the name of COVID-19 and the looming mandatory vaccination,’ the letter read.

‘We feel a real calling to do our part to stop the oppression.’

NSW was plunged into lockdown on March 31 as infection rates began to soar, barring residents from leaving their homes for reasons other than to buy groceries, go to work or school, exercise, or see a doctor.

Commissioner Fuller revealed at the time that police had been given powers to issue fines of $1,000 to people who gather in groups of more than two or fail to remain 1.5m apart.

In his early morning correspondence, Mr Cooney said: ‘Many of us believe that we are removing our own rights and freedoms by enforcing these rules upon the community, including our family and friends.’

Mr Cooney also urged his peers across the nation to craft similar letters to their respective commissioners to show support for a movement he created called ‘Cops for Covid Truth’.

The movement’s website likens the government’s pandemic response to the battle between ‘good and evil’ in the Star Wars franchise.

‘If this really is a George Lucas battle between the virtuous and an evil Empire, it cannot endure without its storm troopers. May the force be with us,’ the website says.

In the letter, Mr Cooney suggested that officers may be called on to enforce a potential coronavirus vaccine on residents, and called on Mr Fuller to give citizens a ‘choice’.

He claimed he sought to ‘raise the alarm that a global dictatorship is occurring and the police force is being used as a tool to push these global and corporate agenda upon the population’.

State restrictions were relaxed on May 15 amid plunging infection rates, with premier Gladys Berejiklian vowing not to implement them again unless there was a major outbreak.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the letter is being investigated internally.

‘The officer, who is attached to a specialist command in the Northern region, has been spoken to,’ she said.

‘His duty status is currently under review.’
