This Morning accused of fetishing black men during interview with 60-year-old sisters on Gambia

Two sexagenarian sisters were accused of ‘fetishing black men’ today, after revealing they’ve visited Gambia 15 times in eight years to have relationships with men half their age.

Speaking to presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning, Jackie Simpson, 63, a kitchen porter from Cleethorpes, and her sister Julie Ramsey, 61, a housekeeper, said they first travelled to the West African country for the music, because they ‘love reggae and Bob Marley’.

Jackie also encouraged Ruth to join them on a trip, adding: ‘They’d love you. You’d get a choice from Tinie Tempah, Snoop Dogg and Will.I.Am’.

But viewers were quick to point out that reggae originates in the Caribbean, and accused the show of ‘causing offence’ over the way the hosts and guests discussed young Gambian men.

‘That Gambia piece was offensive and ignorant,’ wrote one, while another penned: ‘If this was two men talking about young women, it would be a different story.’

Twitter users quickly complained that the women were ‘talking about Gambian men like they’re objects, to be used at their disposal, for their pleasure’.

Others said they ‘couldn’t imagine such a lighthearted atmosphere’ if the segments was about two 60-year-old British men ‘going off to Gambia to party with young Gambian women and buying them things’.

Great British Bake Off judge, Prue Leith, 79, recently called Gambia a ‘real life Tinder for geriatrics’.

She recalled being shocked by ‘elderly white European women, happily strolling along hand-in-hand with beautiful young Gambian men’ after visiting the country with her husband.

After Eamonn quoted the celebrity chef, and added that the place made Magaluf seem tame in comparison, he asked the sisters why young Gambian men are interested in older British women.

‘To get to England,’ they replied.

‘I’ve had a relationship with two of them’ Jackie said. ‘It’s noticeable, as soon as you get to the airport, the young Gambian are there. I went to have a dress made and the tailor proposed to me.

‘You get all kind of propositions, but you have to be sensible and realise young men don’t want old women,’ Julie added. ‘They’re poor, they get a nice meal and a few drinks’.

The sisters were adamant that age doesn’t matter to Gambian men, and that sometimes they even pretend to be 80.

‘I had a good time with the boyfriend I had,’ Jackie added. ‘British men are vulgar, Gambian are gentlemanly, maybe because they’re laid back on the weed.’

While most viewers were outraged by the comments, calling them ‘ridiculous’ and ‘cringe-worthy,’ others saw them as ‘refreshing’, and said the sisters ‘had their heads screwed on right’.

One commented: ‘It’s really refreshing and unexpected to hear that these sisters are not typically gullible sex tourists and they know exactly what these young Gambian men are after.’

However, another viewer added: ‘These poor Gambian lads. These women are just using them and being used themselves. This isn’t romance or love, it’s mutual manipulation.’
