This Morning viewers thought they were hallucinating when they watched Alison Hammond interview a tree on Wednesday.
The presenter, 45, had fans at home in stitches when she was seen chatting to a 1000-year-old oak tree in Liverpool that’s up for European Tree Of The Year.
Hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield couldn’t contain their laughter as they watched poker-faced Alison quiz the ancient oak about its history via the medium of a tree whisperer named Holly Worton.

Approaching the tree, Alison asks: ‘I’ve interviewed Hollywood superstars… but never a tree! Do we need to touch the tree? Do I just ask the tree a question?’
Taking the responsibility very seriously, the bubbly presenter declares: ‘OK so here we go, for our exclusive interview. First of all, you are up for this amazing, prestigious title?
‘How does it feel to be nominated for European Tree Of The Year?’
Alison leans closer to the trunk and pretends to listen, an amusingly earnest look on her face.

Speaking through the interpreter, the tree replies: ‘It feels very exciting, it’s an honour to be recognised in this way.’
Probed further, the tree says: ‘Well if people get out there and vote for me, they’re really good. This is a community and the more people that come to see me will come to see them as well.
‘All of the people standing here and all the people that have come, walking through this park.’
Asked the age of the tree, which viewers had been told was around 1000 years old, the interpreter appeared to have been caught out.
She said: ‘The tree does not measure time so the tree does not have an exact answer’.
