Last December it was revealed Selleck tipped a waiter $2,020 and left a handwritten note to New York City restaurant servers as part of the 2020 Tip Challenge.

The veteran actor left the generous tip on a $204.68 tab in November at the Italian restaurant Elio on the Upper East Side of New York City, his Blue Bloods costar Donnie Wahlberg revealed on Twitter.

Wahlberg, 51, said, ‘I found out that my TV Dad #TomSelleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side! Love ya dad. I didn’t start it but I’m proud to be part of it. To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year – THANK YOU.’

Wahlberg added a shot of the receipt and a note the Detroit-born star left for his server that read, ‘I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg’s tip challenge with my sincere hope for a better 2020.’

Wahlberg, who has past chronicled his large tips, spoke with People about Selleck’s low-key nature after taking part in the tip challenge.

He said that Selleck ‘never mentioned it to’ him on multiple occasions they’ve filmed the police show: ‘We’ve done three dinner scenes since he did it and he never told me.’

Selleck told the publication in April that he’s ‘a fairly private person’ and has ‘always treasured the balance between work and time with my family,’ adding, ‘It’s always about them.

I knew intellectually what it would mean in terms of being a public person, but until you’ve lived it, there’s no way to understand it. I had a feeling of, “I don’t think I’m cut out for this.”‘

Selleck has been married to wife Jillie since 1987 and they are parents to daughter Hannah, 32; Tom is also father to son Kevin, 54, from his previous marriage to Jacqueline Ray.

‘My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,’ he said.
