Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has insisted his former side are ‘not a top six team’ and are in need of a rebuild before they can challenge at the top again.
It’s been a frustrating year for the club who face an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League and will finish the campaign without a trophy after their Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
Their struggles led to the sacking of Jose Mourinho days before the final, with Ryan Mason put in temporary charge until the end of the season.

Glenn Hoddle said Tottenham are ‘not a top six’ side at the moment and need a rebuild
Hoddle has said that Mourinho was sacked at the wrong time and that the team needs rebuilding.
He told BT Sport ahead of Tottenham’s game with Leeds: ‘They’re at a crossroads. Daniel Levy has done a wonderful job with the infrastructure at the club.
‘Hopefully there would have been silverware, that’s why Mourinho was brought in. It didn’t work out. It was a big call to sack him before the final. I’m not sure it was the right time.
‘There are bigger questions at Tottenham. It’s not a top six team at the moment. It needs a rebuild on the pitch. There’s a hell of a lot of work that needs to be done.’
There has also been problems off the pitch with Tottenham fans unhappy with the club’s involvement in the failed European Super League project, as well as the ticket prices for their return to the stadium.
Spurs will welcome 10,000 fans back for their final home Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa on May 19, subject to government confirmation of Step 3 protocols becoming active.
Tickets will cost £60 for adults, £45 for young adults and £30 for over-65s and U18s.
Hoddle added that chairman Daniel Levy needs to talk with the club’s supporters’ trust
Hoddle who played for Tottenham from 1975 to 1987 and later managed the club, said the club’s chairman needs to sit and talk with the supporters’ trust.
He said: ‘If you’re going to do anything in life, you have to have harmony. At the moment, that isn’t the case.
‘The supporter trust wants change, that’s not always easy. Communication has to happen. Sit down with Daniel and talk it out.
‘If not, the war will get bigger on that front. The ticket scenario, I’m scratching my head at who’s made that decision. Give a gift back to your fans.’
