Tottenham are still sweating on the fitness of Harry Kane for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, with a decision to be taken on the morning on whether to risk him in the starting line-up.
But there is growing optimism Kane that he will be able to play, despite having damaged ankle ligaments last Friday against Everton.
The England captain will no doubt be cautious after his decision to start the Champions league final in 2019, when he came back from a more serious ankle injury after seven weeks out but looked short of fitness in the game.

Against that, Kane has never won a major trophy and Spurs haven’t won a cup since 2008.
He managed to complete running exercises on Friday and the ankle was unscathed in its first real test since the injury.
Meanwhile, the club are compiling a short list for to replace sacked manager Jose Mourinho for next season.

Favourite Julian Nagelsmann is likely to take over at Bayern Munich, which is said to be his preference over Spurs, though the RB Leipzig coach has sounded out contacts in the English game about the north London club and the experience of working with Daniel Levy.
That would leave Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers, former Juventus coach Max Allegri and former Liverpool and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez among the candidates being considered.
The plan however is to allow interim manager Ryan Mason continue until the end of the season.
