Tottenham: Son Heung-min claims Jose Mourinho is ‘misunderstood’ and can lead club to a trophy

Son Heung-min claims Jose Mourinho is ‘misunderstood’ and the Tottenham manager’s ‘winning mentality’ can lead the club to a trophy

  • Jose Mourinho has fallen out with several players during his managerial career
  • The All Or Nothing documentary showed him arguing with left-back Danny Rose
  • But Son Heung-min insists Mourinho has brought a feel good factor to Spurs
  • The South Korean also backed him to end their 12-year wait for some silverware

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min believes boss Jose Mourinho is a misunderstood figure in the game and has backed the Portuguese boss to help the club end their 12-year trophy drought.

The All Or Nothing Amazon Prime Documentary showed Mourinho being brutally honest with stars such as Danny Rose, with the Portuguese boss having a history of falling out with players – including Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas – during his career as a manager.

But Son insists Mourinho has revived the positive atmosphere at Spurs after he replaced Mauricio Pochettino as boss last year and can help his side win their first piece of silverware since 2008.

‘Some people misunderstand the manager,’ Son told Goal.

‘Maybe they have a different opinion compared to what he really is, but we see him every day and it is a great atmosphere at the training ground.

‘We laugh and smile at training every day and you can see that in the Amazon video. He has a winning mentality and we all believe he can bring us success and take us to the next level.

‘He has been amazing with us and I will always remember how I felt when he first came to the club and became my manager.’

Son could play under Mourinho for some time yet after Sportsmail revealed that the club are prioritising a new deal for the South Korean following an impressive run of form.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Mourinho since his arrival last year, scoring 18 goals for the Portuguese.

Son will enter the final two years of his contract at the end of this season and Tottenham are keen to avoid any uncertainty with Son following Christian Eriksen’s departure in January,  given his huge importance and the fact he is in the prime of his career.

He currently earns in the region of £150,000-per-week, but can expect a sharp increase as Spurs look to cement his position.
