Vicky Pattison is slammed by social media users after she shares her international travel plans

Vicky Pattison has been criticised for trying to raise awareness of the Australian bushfires just hours before she discussed which long-haul holidays she wanted to go on in 2020.

The reality star, 32, took to Instagram and asked her followers to donate to the cause which has seen the deaths of 25 people and displaced more than half a billion animals.

It is thought climate change may be behind the crisis with Australia seeing its hottest ever day on December 17, with a sweltering average of 41.9C (107F).

Vicky asked her followers to donate what they could, writing: ‘Please don’t just scroll past this, I’ll admit, a lot of my posts are unimportant and vapid but I know that this will be the most important thing I ask you all this year.

‘People in Australia are dying, animals are dying, our eco systems are dying. Our planet is in crisis!!! And Australia needs our help.

‘When the Notre Dame burned in April last year over £650 million was pledged within 24 hours for the reconstruction of a church building.

‘An area the size of Belgium is currently on fire in south east Australia, scores of peoples have lost their lives, hundreds have lost their homes and property, firefighters are collapsing through exhaustion and over 500 billion animals have perished.

‘Where is our global outcry?! Where is our support for Australia? Where are the funds for our delicate eco systems? The human race need to sort our priorities out.’

She went on to say she’d ‘spent all morning reading the articles, crying, reaching out to my Australian friends and checking everyone is ok.’

She then added: ‘I’m just worrying and working out the best ways to help in anyway I can! I’ve worked out that there’s so many amazing charities doing what they can to help.

‘I’ve personally donated to @wireswildliferescue and can reassure you all that they’re accepting international donations and that it took me less than 5 mins to donate.’

‘Please, this is only going to get worse. Aussies are strong, but they can’t do this alone – let’s show Australia that we care.’

Vicky later took to Instagram to reveal her travel plans for the year at a time when many are trying to cut back on their aviation travel to help battle climate change.

She said: ‘I’ve been meaning to pop my New Years Resolutions up for awhile now but with everything else going on in the world, me pledging to go to the gym more & drink less all just seemed a bit insignificant & futile.

‘Having said that I do love this time of year (I’m weird I know) – it’s like the first page of a new book, & you get to write it!

‘A fresh start and a chance to make it anything you want! New goals, new experiences, a new mindset. A brand new opportunity to be exactly what you want to be! And quite frankly that gives me goosebumps! & I love resolutions so here goes. [sic]

Vicky said: 'My first resolution for 2020 is to travel more! I’ve always loved going on holiday & seeing new places but I think last year I really got bitten by the travel bug!'

‘I love that you can go away and experience another culture, immerse yourself with the locals, spend quality time with loved ones, try something different, be bold & do something adventurous or if you want just chill on a beach, drinking a cocktail & enjoying the sand between your toes!!

‘Travel opens your heart, broadens your mind and fills your life with stories to tell! And I honestly can’t think of a better first resolution than to commit to this!

‘This year I’m super keen to get to Thailand! (I really want to go to the elephant sanctuary in Chiang mai), I want to do the Amalfi coast properly (& eat all the pasta) & finally I really would like to spend a weekend in Paris!’

The former Geordie Shore star’s post was met with criticism from some users.

She added: 'Travel opens your heart, broadens your mind and fills your life with stories to tell! And I honestly can’t think of a better first resolution than to commit to this!'

One follower wrote: ‘I’ve donated to a separate link but global warming cause? One being influencers flying around the world on holiday posting pics. The irony!’

Another said: ‘Maybe this extreme weather will make people question their lifestyle changes.

‘If people were genuinely outraged about this they would surely think about what’s on their plate and change their ways.’

Another user wrote: ‘You need to change your ways too thought @vickypattison – that new dress every week, lots of flying, promoting buying stuff we don’t need…it’s all part of the same problem.’

Another added: ‘There fires have been going on for weeks now, donating is great, but we are in a crisis!!

‘Can you post to let us know what your carbon footprint is currently like, and personal changes you are making to help the planet long term?’

Another added: ‘Makes me so angry seeing ‘celebrities’ driving this. How much of your own money have you put in Vicky?’

In August it was revealed that Australia’s CO2 emissions – the main driver of global heating – had risen again, going up 0.6% in the year to March.

The country already has one of the highest CO2 levels per capita in the world with 0.3% of the population releasing 1.07% of greenhouse gases.
