Weirdest polling stations where people are casting their votes in the UK today

When news of the first winter election in decades broke, there were fears children nationwide could have their Nativity plays cancelled because schools would be closed and used as polling stations.

But gone are the days when the only places for voters to cast their ballots were schools, churches and town halls.

Today people have been queuing up at weird and wonderful locations the length and breadth of Britain to declare who they want to see in 10 Downing Street tomorrow.

From a Gloucestershire pub to a fossil museum in Dorset and even an old train carriage in Yorkshire, polling stations come in all shapes and sizes.

As long as they comply with Electoral Commission guidelines, which include ensuring disabled access and a functioning toilet, you’re allowed to cast your vote there.

In Croydon, south London, someone has volunteered their house as a polling station, while in Pembrokeshire, Wales, a fish and chip shop is being used.

Here MailOnline brings you a selection of some of the more unusual places democracy is in action today.
