West Brom have lurched from one target to another following Sam Allardyce’s departure. Their Chinese owners blocked the appointment of Chris Wilder and deliberated too long over offering the job to David Wagner.

Frustration around the saga also saw the departure of sporting and technical director Luke Dowling by mutual consent.

They now hope Ismael will accept the challenge of returning the club to the Premier League. However, he has a number of players who wish to leave this summer and faces the task of reshaping the squad.
