FORGET HELL’S ANGELS

Does leather make you a little nervous? I don’t blame you. It used to conjure up images of aged rockers, movie baddies and Hell’s angels. Personally, I’m more likely to be on a push-bike than a

Harley-Davidson but I was still a big fan of the black biker jacket. Mine has to be nearly 15 years old and falling apart at the seams. I love it but the look has become rather predictable.

THE TASTIEST HUES

This season what you want to be wearing is soft, sophisticated brown leather. Brown is this

season’s hottest hue. I know fashion folk say this about at least four or five colours each season but for this one it’s real. Shades that sound tasty are what you’re after: chocolate, coffee, caramel and butterscotch. There’s something effortlessly cool about it. I’ll be replacing my old biker jacket with the M&S one below (£250).

TOP-TO-TOE CHIC

A more interesting option might be a leather skirt, which has gone from fashion pariah status to a wardrobe essential. The buttery beige trousers from Mint Velvet below (£99) are insanely soft. Or you can blow the budget on the fabulous belted shirt dress from Baukjen (£419) that I’m wearing here.

FAKE IT IN FAUX

You can fake it, too. Nanushka won’t be any kinder on your bank balance but their vegan designs are considerably nicer for

animals and avoid using nasty chemicals. There’s a whole range of faux to feast on, like the a-line skirt from M&Co below at just £40
