BOHO VIBES

Florals may be the default print for spring, but this season why not hit refresh with paisley instead? This feathery, teardropshaped pattern is an eye-catching nod to bohemian style, with its roots in Persian history. It was made famous in the 1970s and its hippy vibe will carry you seamlessly through into what will, we hope, be a summer of celebrations.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTION

Paisley is always a good investment as it stands the test of time. Liberty’s archive paisley scarves are a covetable classic, and designers keep revisiting the print. Among the fashion houses paying homage this season are Gucci, with its flared trousers in psychedelic colours, and Etro — the Italian brand’s floaty chiffon dresses ooze whimsical glamour.

MODERN MOTIF

Another plus point for this print is that it makes a stylish impact without the need to accessorise too much. I like to wear it all over, hence this feminine cotton maxi dress (right) from East, which uses artisan methods of block printing. Separates make a more subtle statement — try Anthropologie’s kimono jacket (below), a perfect choice for evenings out or picnics in the park.

COLOUR PALETTE

Paisley works equally well in bold and muted palettes — take your pick to suit your personal style. And on the subject of colour, a useful tip is to pick one of the tones from the print and match it with a jacket or knit for chilly evenings out. Ted Baker’s tiered hemline dress (below) adds an extra swish factor, while Baukjen’s blouse is versatile with jeans if you are still not ready to get your legs out.
