Woman, 24, is charged after almost $500,000 worth of cannabis was found in her truck near Byron Bay

  • Police were patrolling the Pacific Highway in NSW when they stopped a truck 
  • Officers searched the vehicle near Byron Bay and allegedly found cannabis 
  • A 24-year-old woman was charged with supply commercial quantity-cannabis  

A woman has been charged after police allegedly found almost $500,000 worth of cannabis inside a vehicle. 

Police were patrolling the Pacific Highway, McLeods Shoot near Byron Bay, on the New South Wales far north coast, on Wednesday when they pulled over a truck.

About 3:30pm officers searched the vehicle, where they allegedly found 73kgs of cannabis.

The woman and a man, both aged 24, were arrested by officers at the scene and taken to Byron Bay Police Station.

She was charged with supply commercial quantity-cannabis.

The woman appeared before Ballina Local Court on Thursday. She was refused bail and will next appear in court on February 4.  

Police said the cannabis allegedly located has an estimated potential street value of $480,000. 

Police inquiries are continuing.
