Delta Goodrem shares the inspiration behind her new Christmas album

She released her new album Only Santa Knows last month.

And on Saturday, Delta Goodrem revealed she felt inspired to create the Christmas album during lockdown.

‘Around the time of lockdown, I was talking about how much gravity it was going to be for Christmas because I hadn’t seen my family in ages,’ the 36-year-old told host Richard Wilkins on Weekend Today.

‘Then I started sharing stories about how much I believe in Santa and how it never mattered if everybody didn’t believe.’

‘I had that as a foundation system for my belief in magic. And I express that love in the song Only Santa Knows,’ she explained.

The Born to Try songstress also revealed her special festive plans for Christmas.

‘[I’m spending Christmas] with the family, shoes off and a glass of wine in hand,’ she said.

Delta also spoke about her new album on Channel Seven’s Weekend Sunrise and said ‘it all stemmed from the piano’. 

‘I started by going through the different songs that shaped my Christmases and also wrote two originals but found my version from the foundation of the piano,’ she said.

Delta’s interviews come as her upcoming TV special, Christmas with Delta, is set to air on Saturday night.

Delta will perform a slew of festive hits with her band – which includes her boyfriend, Matthew Copley, on guitar. 

The one-hour special will also feature special appearances from Kylie Minogue in London and Olivia Newton John in California.
