After her departure from Today, it was understood Georgie would return to presenting Nine News Sydney on Fridays and Saturdays.

An industry insider has told Daily Mail Australia that Georgie is likely to be heading back to her old stomping ground at Nine’s Weekend News.

The source also claimed that she will take over from Peter Overton on the weekday 6pm bulletin when he is away.

‘[Georgie] has really proven her worth on weekends and as Peter Overton’s back-up. Together they have become an unstoppable team dominating Sydney ratings,’ they said.

In November 2019, Nine announced their decision to axe Georgie and co-host Deborah Knight from their breakfast TV hosting duties at Channel Nine’s Today show.

At the time of her axing, Georgie claimed she was shocked by the network’s decision to sack her and Deborah, and reinstate Karl Stefanovic, who had previously been axed in December 2018.

‘I was consulted two weeks ago about the future direction of the Today show and naturally I’m disappointed with the outcome,’ she told Nine Now.

‘I have no regrets, even though the scrutiny and public discourse has been daunting and disproportionate. It’s also at times been cruel.’

Georgie subsequently left the show shortly after her axing, choosing not to finish the year.

Today suffered record-low ratings after Georgie replaced Lisa Wilkinson as Karl Stefanovic’s co-host in early 2018.
