Newsreader Tracy Vo speaks about the ‘hard decision’ to leave the Today show to be closer to her elderly parents amid COVID-19 pandemic

Tracy Vo confirmed she relocated to Perth to be closer to her elderly parents amid the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this week.

The newsreader, 36, explained to 9Now on Thursday that it was a ‘hard decision’ to leave Channel Nine’s Today show in Sydney after just four months into the role.

‘It was a hard decision, but I thought it was the right decision at the time,’ she said.

Tracy is now back in Channel Nine’s Perth newsroom working on the road during the week and presenting the 6pm bulletin on weekends.

Her decision to be closer to her family, particularly her parents, was made just before the Western Australian borders were shut last week.

Tracy’s decision to go back home was prompted by her 64-year-old father, Tai, who suffers from Morvan Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease.

While the well-respected journalist is happy to be home and closer to family, she said she misses the Today show team.

Tracy revealed she watches the breakfast show every morning and also regularly speaks to her friend and Today co-host friend Allison Langdon.

‘I really miss the Today show guys and it was just a family decision, purely a family decision,’ she said.
