A large hot air mass that broke Perth‘s September heat record on Wednesday will begin tracking east and bring sweltering weather to the rest of Australia.

The record-breaking heat is set to move to the east coast as most states prepare for a long weekend and the NRL Grand Final.

The system will hit South Australia first with Adelaide‘s maximum temperature jumping from 21C on Wednesday to 25C on Thursday.

Those temperatures will continue to climb with a top of 28C forecast on Friday and 31C on Saturday.

Adelaide residents will get a brief break from the heat on Sunday as clouds move over the city, bringing the maximum down to 21C before it jumps back to 31C on Monday.

Parts of Sydney could reach 36C on Sunday with temperatures possibly staying above 30C for the NRL Grand Final

Town’s across New South Wales’ west are expected to start feeling the heat from Friday with Broken Hill’s maximum temperatures hanging around the low 30Cs ahead of a 36C forecast on Sunday.

The hottest day of Canberra’s long weekend is set to fall on Sunday with a top of 29C coupled with windy conditions.

The hot weather will see Sydney’s maximum temperature jump from 22C on Thursday to 29C ahead of a weekend high of 35C on Sunday.

Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said the heat system could break records in Sydney.

‘Parts of western Sydney are forecast to reach around 36C on Sunday and 37 to 38C on Tuesday,’ he said.

‘If any Greater Sydney weather station exceeds 37.3C in the first three days of October, it will be the Sydney Basin’s highest temperature on record this early in spring.

‘While temperatures in the city should be slightly cooler than the western suburbs in the opening days of October, this Sunday could reach around 35C in the CBD.

‘If the temperature manages to climb above 34.6C on October 1, it will be the city’s hottest day on record this early in spring.’

Adelaide will be the first capital to feel the heat with its maximum temperature jumping from 21C on Wednesday to 25C on Thursday

Mr Domensino added the heat could affect the NRL Grand Final on Sunday night.

‘For NRL fans attending the Grand Final between the Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers at Olympic Park on Sunday night, temperatures could still be close to 30C at kick off,’ he said.

‘Sunday’s heat will ensure a sweaty night for fans and players alike, not that teams from Brisbane and Penrith should mind too much.’

Temperatures in Brisbane are forecast to stay consistent through to next week with high temperatures sitting around 27C and 28C.

Melbourne also won’t see much change with temperatures hanging in the mid to low 20Cs aside from an odd day at 29C on Saturday.

Winds are expected to pick up over Hobart from Thursday afternoon before showers and cloudy conditions settle for the weekend.

Perth, which saw it’s hottest September day in almost 150 years on Wednesday at 34.3C, will start to cool from Friday with a top of 22C on Saturday and 21C on Sunday.

The weather in Darwin is set to stay hot and sunny with maximum temperatures in the mid 30Cs forecast all weekend.
