Travis Kelce has addressed speculation that he might have been a bit too keen to play the gentlemanly role on his date with Taylor Swift last weekend in New York.

The Kansas City Chiefs star was filmed seemingly beckoning a security guard out of the way before opening the door of the car Swift was in to escort her out of the vehicle.

Speaking on his New Heights podcast that came out on Wednesday, which Kelce co-hosts with his brother Jason, he explained how things actually went down.

‘Did you get any pushback for [pushing security] out of the way?’ asked Jason.

‘Pushing him out the way? I didn’t push him!’ Kelce said. ‘I placed my hand on the gentleman’s back to let him know I was behind him.

‘If I would have pushed him, he probably would have turned around and tased me.’

Jason – himself an NFL player with the Philadelphia Eagles – joked that Travis sounded like ‘somebody who pushed somebody would’.

Travis took his older brother’s joke in good faith and said: ‘It was more like ‘Good sir, would you excuse me? I need to get the door. Sorry. Right behind you. Don’t want to startle you. I know it’s your job to keep crazy people away and if you get randomly pushed in the back while standing in front of a door, that could probably be a little alarming'”.

But Jason wasn’t finished.

‘Do you feel like a security guard when you’re with Taylor?’ Jason asked.

‘I feel like when I’m on a date I feel the sense of: ‘I’m a man in this situation; I’m protective,’ Travis said. ‘Yeah, for sure. You always kind of have that feeling or that self-awareness I guess.’

Their weekend in New York came after Swift went to watch Kelce play for the Chiefs last Thursday night against Denver Broncos.

This coming weekend, the Chiefs host the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium and speculation will again return to whether Swift will go to the game.

She resumes her massively popular Eras Tour in Argentina on November 9, meaning this weekend and next weekend’s game in Denver are the last two feasible for her to see Kelce play.

On November 5, Kelce and the Chiefs head to Germany to play Miami Dolphins.
