Karl Stefanovic’s return to the Today show continues to see a ratings surge

Karl Stefanovic continues to pull in viewers for the once embattled Today Show, with viewership surging amid the continued bush fire crisis coverage.

According to TV Tonight on Tuesday, Karl and co-host Allison Langdon appeared on the heels of rival Sunrise, pulling in 226,000 viewers on Monday.

While Sunrise managed to top Channel Nine gaining a massive audience of 293,000 viewers during its Monday broadcast.

Today’s Monday episode was up 15 per cent compared to the premiere of the network’s all female line-up, which only attracted 197,000 viewers.

The upswing in viewers is welcome news to the Nine Network, who has suffered record low ratings over the past 12 months.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday, Nine’s director of morning television Steven Burling said the team was ensuring viewers were up-to-date.

Meanwhile, Sunrise was still number one nationally across the five capital cities. 

It also stated that Sunrise had a national margin of a staggering 45 per cent, calling it a big win over Nine’s weekend team.  

It comes on the heels of another win for Channel Nine, after the Today Show’s surge at the weekend.

According to TV Tonight, Saturday’s special Weekend Today drew an audience of 231,000 across the five-cities, up 34,000 viewers from the Saturday before that. 

While Sunrise managed to triumph on Saturday, with 312,000 viewers across the five-cities, up 28,000 from the previous weekend. 

Nine initially planned on introducing the new Today team on Monday, January 6, but bought it forward due to the bush fire crisis.   

Karl was famously axed from the Today show in December 2018, and replaced on the panel by Deborah Knight, who took his seat next to Georgie Gardner.

In November, Nine announced Karl would return in January alongside Allison Langdon.

The pair are joined on the revamped panel by newsreader Tracy Vo, weatherman Tim Davies and former Sunday Night reporter Alex Cullen, who will present sport.

Brooke Boney has remained as Today’s entertainment reporter.

After the group made their debut on Saturday, viewers praised the new team.
